‘Regressive practices making a comeback’

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that there is an attempt by dark forces to bring back the unsavoury customs and superstitions of the past that were obliterated following hard battles fought by social reformers. “There is an intense need to think of the future of the country,” he said while inaugurating ‘Sahodara Saudham’ at an event organised by Sree Narayana Seva Sanghom here on Monday.

Mr. Vijayan said while Sree Narayana Guru and Sahodara Ayyappan fought against evil customs, the Kerala they lived in had now become a fertile ground for illogical beliefs. When a godman got punished for wrongdoing, his followers had taken law into their hands and vandalised streets. Those who should have stopped this from happening were actually out to defend them, Mr. Vijayan said.
