The realigned Indira Gandhi Road on Willingdon Island will be opened to vehicular traffic on September 21. The old road from CIFT Junction to old workshop will be closed as the area is being handed over to the Cochin Shipyard for development of an international ship repair facility, said a press release from the Cochin Port Trust.

Indira Gandhi Road is the main road in the port area on Willingdon Island. The realignment was necessitated for the second stage development of the ship repair facility. The work was carried out at a cost of ₹2.97 crore over nine months. It was completed before the stipulated date of completion.
