The Railway is yet to decide on how best to utilise the intra-Ernakulam district MEMU during off-peak hours, after rest of its trips were cancelled due to low patronage.
Rescheduling
“We will have to examine whether its services can be rescheduled so that it operates to neighbouring districts or whether it can be used when other MEMU trains in operation take a day’s break every week for maintenance,” said Trivandrum Divisional Railway Manager Prakash Bhutani.
He added that a quick decision could not be taken since around 30 kms of track was yet to be doubled in Kottayam, while the process was not even half way through in Alappuzha.
The Railway has retained the MEMU (Special train no.06733) service leaving Angamaly at 9.25 a.m. to reach Ernakulam Junction at 10.15 a.m. Special train no.06736 leaving Ernakulam Junction at 3.10 p.m. to reach Angamaly at 4.10 p.m. will run as usual.
