The Railway police sleuths in Kochi seized seven kg of ganja from a train that reached here from Mumbai in the wee hours of Thursday.

The baggage containing the contraband was lying unattended beneath a berth of one of the sleeper coaches of the Mumbai-Kanyakumari Express.

The packet was seized when the train reached Ernakulam Town railway station.

Further examinations revealed that it contained ganja in four small packets covered with adhesive tape.

Preliminary investigations traced the origin of the packet to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

A follow-up probe is on. According to officials, trafficking ganja through unclaimed baggage is a ploy adopted by ganja rackets.
