Rahul Gandhi in Aluva today

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, on a two-day tour of Kerala to take part in protests against the Bharatiya Janata Party-government at the Centre on its first year in office, will hold parleys with representatives of rubber growers at Aluva on Wednesday to understand their problems.

To meet fishermen

Mr. Gandhi, who arrived at Kozhikode on Tuesday, will reach Chavakkad on Wednesday morning to express solidarity with the fishermen reeling under the restrictions on Indian fishing community after the recommendations of the Meenakumari Commission were notified by the Centre into statutes.

He is slated to hold discussions with the fishing community and inaugurate their meet later on. The Chief Minister and senior Congress leaders in the State will take part in the programmes.

Stringent security arrangements have been made at Chavakkad and at Aluva for the visit of the Gandhi scion. He will return to New Delhi on Wednesday night.
