The ongoing quarry strike that brought Kochi metro rail work to a halt during the past 10 days will hopefully be settled in one or two days, Minister for Power and Railways Aryadan Mohammed has said.
He was speaking to The Hindu about concerns expressed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Principal Advisor E. Sreedharan about possible delay in the metro’s commissioning due to the strike that began on February 16.
“The government will ensure that the metro’s reach 1 (Aluva-Maharaja’s College stretch) is commissioned by June 2016, as per the revised schedule,” he said.
A senior DMRC official expressed dismay at State government’s apathy despite work in the 18-km metro corridor coming to a grinding halt during the past week after contractors ran out of stock of aggregate.
“None in the government seems bothered about around 4,000 workers of the mega infrastructure project idling at work sites and yards which have run out of stock of aggregate due to the strike.
“With Holi around the corner, migrant workers might opt to return to their home States on extended leave if aggregate is not made available.”
