The quality of teachers is an important indicator of learning outcome in educational institutions, said A. Santhosh Mathew, Chairperson, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) here.

In his address at the open house session on “National Consultation on NCTE’s Reform Plan” for South Indian teacher educators at the Cochin University of Science and Technology here on Friday, Mr. Mathew said that a ranking and accreditation framework for teacher education institutions in the country would help in providing an holistic assessment of such institutions, according to a university release.

Beyond the physical assets and rudimentary academic assets in the original framework, it would give the maximum weightage for teaching and learning quality and learning outcomes. Thus, a four-pillar framework was drafted and being consulted among institutes, he said.

The views of principals, teachers and students of teacher education institutions from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Pondicherry have been sought in this regard.

Sanjay Awasthi, Member Secretary, NCTE, and senior officers attended.
