In line with its proposal to open100 bridges across the State in a span of 400 days, the State Public Works Department has prepared an action plan and formed a committee headed by PWD Secretary Muhammad Haneesh to monitor its implementation, PWD Minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju has said.
Monthly meetings
Under the plan, meetings will be conducted on a monthly basis at Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvanathapuram zones under the department secretary. The meetings will address issues pertaining to land acquisition, coordination with other departments and other technical issues. Besides, it will also report to the State government the issues to be addressed at the government level.
Further, the Minister has also directed the chief engineer and superintending engineers concerned to prepare review reports on the progress of works on a weekly basis.
According to Mr. Ebrahim Kunju, the works have been classifieds under three heads — bridges, flyovers and overbridges, and the first of the bridges under the scheme will be inaugurated on Monday.
Of the 100 bridges, the PWD roads and bridges division has taken up the construction of as many as 89 bridges while the PWD national highway wing is constructing six bridges. The Kerala Road Fund Board is working on two bridges while the remaining ten bridges are being constructed by Kerala State Transport Project.
The bridges to be completed during the period include Eloor-Methanam, Malayattur-Kodanad, Nettur-Kundannur, Elookkara-Uliyannur, Kallarkutty- Munnar town andAloor-Mala bridges.
