The wrong policies of the State and Central governments were causing hardship to the people of the country. The State government should have tried to buy power from other States than hiking the power tariff.

The Central government’s decision to provide mobile phones to all in the country was aimed at helping the monopoly groups, said Kanam Rajendran, national executive member of the Communist Party of India.

Mr. Rajendran was speaking after inaugurating the march taken out by the party activists to the Kanayannur Taluk office on Friday against hike in prices of essential commodities and criminalisation of politics.

The wrong policies of the State and Central governments were causing hardship to the people of the country. The State government should have tried to buy power from other States than hiking the power tariff. It also failed to realise the huge power tariff dues to the Kerala State Electricity Board from various agencies. The pro-people policies of the previous LDF government were all reversed by the State government, he said.

The government was attempting to dilute the wetland conservation rules and food safety regulations. The police force was being criminalised by the State government resulting in the breakdown of law and order situation. The government’s attempt to deal with people’s agitations with an iron fist should be resisted, Mr. Rajendran said.

E.M. Sunilkumar, district executive member, presided. Earlier, the party activists took out a march from the High Court junction.

CPI leaders M.P. Radhakrishnan, M. Abraham, Kumbalam Rajappan, T.C. Sanjith and C.A. Shakkeer were among those who spoke.
