Protest against closure of men’s hostel

The Ernakulam Maharaja’s College on Monday witnessed chaotic scenes when a section of its students gheraoed the Principal alleging conspiracy behind closing down the men’s hostel.

According to the SFI Maharaja’s unit, the management closed down the hostel without providing an alternative. “They are saying they want to build a new one after demolishing the existing facility though no fund has been granted in this regard. The students threatened to intensity the strike unless the hostel is opened again. The college authority said the decision to demolish the existing facility was taken after an internal commission and a team from the education department submitted reports of their inspections of the building.
