Promotion soon for all eligible Cusat teachers

July 07, 2013 01:46 am | Updated 01:46 am IST - KOCHI:

A special Syndicate meeting of the Cochin University of Science and Technology has decided to grant promotion to all eligible faculty members within 45 days.

The Syndicate criticised what it termed as the unilateral stand adopted by the university registrar on the issue of promotion of teachers.

The special Syndicate was convened to discuss the issues related to the teachers. The sub-committee appointed to look into their grievances was asked to submit necessary details with regard to their promotion. The controversy surrounding a letter from the Higher Education department on the promotion of Prof. Mathew Cherian of Pulinkunnu Engineering College under Cusat necessitated the special Syndicate meeting.

The members accused the registrar of giving a unilateral response to the letter and in violation of set precedents.

They felt that the response should have been given after detailed discussions as the matter affected more than 100 teachers. Following this, eight Syndicate members wrote letters demanding a special meeting to discuss the action of the registrar.

The registrar’s attempt to justify his stand also invited strong criticism from Syndicate members.

Steps will be taken to promote all eligible teachers within 45 days based on the AICTE’s pay revision order.
