Prohibitory orders clamped in Chengannur, Mavelikkara taluks

Chengannur Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), E.Nurudheen Kunju has clamped prohibitory orders in Chengannur and Mavelikkara taluks in the district from July 20 to 23 in view of the tense situation in Chengannur and nearby places folowing the clashes between Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Campus Front of India (CFI) workers near Chengannur Christian College resulting in the killing of an ABVP activist few days ago.

Chengannur SDM who had issued prohibitory orders under the Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code said that during this period there should not be any procession in the name of religions, caste or political, conduct of public meeting or conference or crowding of public.

Those who violate these orders will be punished under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other existing laws. The order was based on the reports of Mannar police inspector and Chengannur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP).
