The Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) will organise a march to the office of the Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam, here on Saturday, calling for a detailed probe into the suspicious nature of the death of Amuda, an 18-year-old girl from Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, who was employed as house maid at Kothamangalam.
Members of the fact finding team, Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers' Union and SEWA will participate in the march, which will begin from Mother Teresa Square.
Case against accused
A new case has been registered against the accused in a cheating case.
Suresh Kumar Shetty, 34, was picked up from Kuntapura in Karnataka last week on the basis of a complaint filed by Anil Sivasankaran of Thrissur at the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
The complaint alleged that a group, of which Shetty was a member, made bulk purchases of electronic goods from Mr. Sivasankaran's shop in Dubai and went into hiding after giving fake cheques. Mr. Sivasankaran complained that he was cheated of Rs.4 crore. Even though Shetty was released on bail on Thursday, another case has been registered against him after Rema of Kodunagallur lodged a complaint with the Town Central Police that she was cheated of nearly Rs.1.5 crore.
A team from the Town Central Police reached Kuntapura to pick up other suspects who evaded arrest. The team is at present camping there. It is expected that more complaints will surface in these days, police sources said.
Held for drug peddling
The shadow wing of the City Police arrested one person on charges of drug peddling. John Greet, 34, of Elamakkara, was arrested from near Elamakkara Government Higher Secondary School with nearly 150 ampoules in his possession.
The police said that he was the main link in a network that supplied narcotic drugs to school and college students. The stuff was brought in from Mysore by bus and then sold to small-scale drug peddlers who got in touch through mobile phones. City Police Commissioner M.R. Ajith Kumar has requested the public to pass on information regarding drug peddling to 94979 80440 or 2385002.
Found dead
A youth from Kollam was found dead by hanging in a lodge. Manesh, 32, of Kollam, checked into the lodge on November 28. He was a second-hand vehicle dealer and was found dead in the room on Friday morning.
