Suresh Kumar Shetty, 34, was picked up from Kuntapura in Karnataka last week on the basis of a complaint filed by Anil Sivasankaran of Thrissur at the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
The complaint alleged that a group, of which Shetty was a member, made bulk purchases of electronic goods from Mr. Sivasankaran's shop in Dubai and went into hiding after giving fake cheques. Even though Shetty was released on bail on Thursday, another case has been registered against him after Rema of Kodunagallur lodged a complaint with the Town Central Police that she was cheated of nearly Rs.1.5 crore.
A team from the Town Central Police reached Kuntapura to pick up other suspects who evaded arrest. The team is at present camping there. It is expected that more complaints will surface in these days, police sources said.
