A departmental inquiry into the missing of files and title deeds at Puliyanmala after a ‘pattaya mela' (function to distribute title deeds) held on September 2 has begun.
District Collector E. Devadasan has entrusted a team led by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) B. Ramachandran with the conduct of the inquiry.
Mr. Ramachandran said that of the 70 title deeds that were missing, 60 had been recovered. The title deeds and files went missing from an official vehicle that carried them from here to the Udumbanchola taluk office after the function. The title deeds and files were later recovered by an autorickshaw driver who handed them over to the leaders of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), who in turn handed them over to the District Collector.
The ADM said that a preliminary inquiry into the incident was on and a report would be submitted to the Collector within 15 days.He said that the officials who were in the official jeep that carried the files and those who handled the title deeds and documents at the venue of the function would be questioned. The exact number of lost files could be found out only after a complete cross-checking. The files related to the title deeds which were distributed at the function would be checked to ascertain how many title deeds were missing.
He said that a case has been registered Kattappana police station and an inquiry was on.
