Natasha Maria Davis and Naomi Thomas do not talk much while standing beside their paintings. Instead, they let their work do all the talking.
Natasha, a fifth standard student of Cochin Refineries School, and Naomi, a fourth standard student of Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram, Thiruvankulam, are among 12 young artists whose works are being exhibited at the C block of Durbar Art Gallery.
While Naomi is confident with the brush in her hand, she appeared too shy to describe her works. Nature, she said, was her favourite subject. Looking at her six pictures exhibited at the venue, one could discern her interest. Almost all her pictures are about nature and its inhabitants. Her favourite painting is that of a country landscape. She said that she recollected the image for that painting from her memory.
Natasha lets her imagination guide her while standing in front of the canvas. Imagination paints a picture in her mind and she simply transforms it to the canvas.
Both of them have been undergoing painting training for two years now. They had exhibited their paintings at many intra-school exhibitions before.
While the rest of the 10 participants were busy having fun with their friends and cousins on the eve of Thiruvonam, these young artists were at the exhibition hall to welcome the guests. But they said that they were not sad about missing a holiday.
Binu C. Madhavan, who has been training the young artists for the last one year, said that the participants had been working on their exhibits for the last six months.
Nature, he said, was the overwhelming favourite of the youngsters. The exhibition, which started on August 26, will end on Friday.
