President Pranab Mukherjee will launch the first phase of Muziris heritage project near here on February 27.
This will in turn help Kerala Tourism begin marketing the historic locale. A total of Rs.104-crore conservation works were done using Central and State funds in the famed ancient port of Muziris spread across North Paravur and Kodungalloor. The PWD spent Rs.10 crore to ready roads linking the heritage sites, while the Irrigation Department built boat jetties using Rs.4.50 crore. Hop on, hop off boats too are ready to ferry visitors through the historic locales.
Speaking about the launch, Director of Kerala Tourism Anupama T.V. said that the department is excited about the launch.
