Global tenders would be floated for the implementation of a 400 megawatt power project fired by LNG at Brahmapuram, said State Power Minister Aryadan Muhammad here on Friday.
Expression of interest has been invited for the appointing a consultant for the power project, Mr. Muhammad said at the inauguration of the second phase of the Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (RAPDRP).
A proposal for another 500 megawatt power project using petcock from the Kochi Refineries is also under consideration, he said. Power development and improvement projects worth Rs.592.72 crore will be implemented in the city, said Mr. Aryadan, who presided over the inaugural session. Funds would go to the 24 megawatt power project of Bhoothathankettu and the 110 kV substation at Kizhakkambalam from the project, he said.
Inaugurating the programme, Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas said that Kerala would be fully electrified by May.
The RAPDRP scheme aims at improving power distribution network and reducing transmission loss. The Central scheme implemented by the Kerala State Electricity Board would benefit power consumers in the city and its suburbs and would address perennial complaints like low voltage. Power consumers in Ernakulam, Kochi, Vypeen, Tripunithura, Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, Aluva, and Angamaly Assembly constituencies will benefit from the programme. Uninterrupted power supply, centralised customer care centre, online bill payment and facility to pay the power bill from any section office of the board and automated metre reading facility for high tension consumers are some of the benefits of the scheme, according to board officials. Underground cables will be drawn along 306 km as part of the programme. The board will set up 346 transformers and convert 300 km of single phase lines to three phase lines.
