The ongoing probe against the high-flying con man, grounded by the Nedumbassery police last month, is slated to conclude with the police set to submit a charge sheet against him in three theft cases.

“We have completed investigation against Kamaruddin Sheikh of Mumbai in the two theft cases reported in Nedumbassery while the Elamakkara police have also booked a case against him in connection with a theft reported from a luxury hotel there. A charge sheet will soon be filed against him before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court in Angamaly,” said Baiju P.M, Circle Inspector, Nedumbassery.

The investigations so far have revealed that the accused had visited Kerala on at least four occasions since January this year. “We have confirmed that he landed in Kochi three times and in Kozhikode on a separate occasion,” the CI said.

The police have also collected evidence of him hiring a taxi from Kochi and visiting four luxury hotels in Munnar. However, no instances of him stealing valuables from there have been reported so far.

The officials are yet to confirm whether the accused had flown to other destinations in India and carried out thefts at hotels there. “We contacted the National Crime Records Bureau for this purpose though no instances of similar thefts could be found anywhere across the country,” the officials said.

Sheikh, who runs a car spare parts shop at Andheri, Mumbai, is currently remanded in a prison here.

Sheikh, a native of Jogeswari West in Andheri, landed in police custody during investigation into a theft of gold ornaments worth ₹3.5 lakh and cash from a guest at a luxury hotel near the international airport here in January this year.

The accused would fly from Mumbai every Saturday morning and return home by Sunday evening after conducting thefts. He would hire a taxi on his landing at the airport, visit hotels in the guise of attending official meetings and return in the same car after lifting valuables from unlocked rooms.

Investigations confirmed that he had stolen ₹1.92 lakh from a hotel in Elamakkara and ₹32,000 from one at Nedumbassery.
