The State police, in association with the Kerala Cartoon Academy, will organise a cartoon competition for the inmates of jails across Kerala, aimed at promoting creative talents among the prisoners, State Police Chief Loknath Behera has said.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a cartoon exhibition in Kochi the other day, Mr. Behera said there were several gifted artists among prisoners, and that the competition would provide a platform for expressing their talents. “We know that there are many great painters and writers among the inmates. However, there have been no attempts made so far to bring out the humorous illustrators among them’’, the DGP said, adding that the drawings selected from the competition would be put on display at police stations across Kerala.
Alongside, plans were also afoot to organise a cartoon workshop at any of the Central prisons for all those interested in the art form.
Earlier, Mr.Behera, along with his wife, visited the cartoon exhibition on climate change, organised by the Kerala Cartoon Academy at the Ernakulam YMCA Hall. As many as 125 cartoons are on display at the event.
