December 14, 2014 08:02 am | Updated 08:10 am IST - KOCHI:

The city police on Saturday conducted raids at over 70 travel agencies operating in Kochi and found several agencies operating in violation of norms.

According to the police, many of the agencies raided had been functioning without valid licences. The officials seized about 1,029 passports and currency worth Rs. 7.74 lakhs from the agencies.

Cases have been registered against six firms for illegal possession of travel documents and a report will be submitted to the Protector of Emigrants. The raids were conducted in the wake of recurring complaints about several travel agencies troubling their customers by impounding passports and other travel documents after offering jobs.
