The Puthenkurish police have launched a probe into a suspected online fraud following a petition filed by a resident that nearly ₹1 lakh was siphoned off from his credit card through online transactions.

Joji Varghese was reportedly alerted to the online transactions using his credit card by the customer care centre of a new generation bank, which had issued the card, on May 19.

The bank authorities grew suspicious after 30-odd online transactions of ₹2,000 each were made in quick succession between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. to a mobile network company account followed by an international online transaction of ₹29,000 and had rung him up to verify whether he had made the transactions.
