The police will block movement of poultry into or out of the district to prevent spread of bird flu further.

Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief S. Sateesh Bino said: “The District Collector has issued directions to stop the transport of birds to prevent the spread of the disease. We have given instructions to the force to prevent the movement of birds in and out of the district, along roads and waterways”. He said the police had not detected any instances to transport birds across borders so far.

No special police force has been deployed to check the movement of poultry between districts, existing patrol teams have been directed to watch out for such activity.

“Special instructions have been issued to police in areas like Chellanam, where there is a lot of poultry rearing activity,” said city police commissioner K.G. James. He said the highway patrol and special border checking force had also been put on alert to prevent transport of poultry.
