The crime branch probing the Mithila Mohan murder case on Thursday informed the Kerala High Court that earnest efforts were on to locate the remaining accused persons in the case.
The police scotched the theory that some persons who had contacts with Mithila Mohan had died under suspicious circumstances one after another. The crime branch said it wanted some more time to complete the probe. The submissions were made in a statement filed by the police in response to a petition by M. Manesh, son of Mithila Mohan, seeking a CBI probe into the case.
He sought a CBI probe in view of reports that persons connected with the murder were dying in suspicious circumstances. He submitted that one Ceylon Mohan, who was the head of the quotation gang that allegedly killed Mithila Mohan, had died in suspicious circumstances.
The crime branch had arrested Santhosh Kumar, the first accused in the case on April 4, 2013. Later, three other persons, Pandian, Mathivanan and Uppali were arraigned as the second, third and fourth accused.
The crime branch said that there were no suspicious circumstances behind the death of these persons. It pointed out that Pandian alias Sindigul Pandian, who accepted money from Santhosh Kumar and arranged the goondas to commit the murder, was killed in an encounter with the Tamil Nadu police. The crime branch team had verified all the matters in connection with the death of Pandian.
Ceylon Mohan, an associate of Pandian, was murdered by some goondas. He was murdered before the arrest of first accused in the case. An abkari named Raj alias Palraj was murdered due to some disputes with Pandian.
It further pointed out that Sadanandan, former manager of Mithila Mohan, drowned while taking bath in a river near his house at Thalassery along with his grandchildren. Saravanan, a 15-year-old boy, who was a neighbour of Mohan died in a train accident on January 27, 2010 and there was no suspicions over his death.
