Plea to implement commission report

September 03, 2010 03:50 pm | Updated 03:50 pm IST - KOCHI:

The triennial assembly meeting of Kerala Council of Churches appealed to the government to implement the Ranganath Mishra Commission recommendation to extend the benefits given to backward communities to converted Dalits.

The meeting also said that land for development activities should be taken over only after the rehabilitation package is implemented.

It also said that the government should withdraw from privatising national highways in the name of BoT operations.

The assembly also said that the government should re-examine its policy of encouraging liquor business by permitting bars and toddy shops at will.

Abraham Mar Paulose Episcopa presided at the triennial meeting, said a press release here on Thursday.
