The Junior Public Health Nurse Grade II Rank Holders' Association has requested the government to expedite the appointment of nurses from the rank list of the Public Service Commission (PSC) and sought clarifications on the order that seeks to modify the ratio of grade II nurses to grade I nurses from 2:1 to 1:1. If the government modifies the ratio without creating new posts, grade II nurses' posts would fall short and this would deny appointments for those who have passed the PSC test for grade II nurses.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, association leaders said that 3,706:1,854 is the existing ratio of grade II to grade I nurses. Many vacancies of grade II nurses are not being reported because of lack of clarity in the order on how the ratio would be equalled.
The published rank list has a validity of only six months. Of these, three months are over. It is promotions from grade II to grade I that create vacancies. Only two promotions have come about since the rank list was published.
In spite of the fact that the second promotion order came about three months ago, and this would have created at least 98 vacancies in Ernakulam district alone, the health authorities are not reporting the same to the PSC.
