Plant trees to save the Earth: Minister

June 06, 2010 04:17 pm | Updated 04:17 pm IST - KOCHI:

Forest Minister Benoy Viswom never wastes an opportunity to convey the message of environment protection.

The artist in him woke up when he turned up to inaugurate the poster design exhibition organised by Organic BPS, a branding agency, here on Saturday. Mr. Viswom made a drawing of a tree and wrote this caption: “Climate change: Tree is the answer”.

He said that planting of trees will help check the adverse impacts of climatic change. The Minister also pointed out that the government had initiated a green campaign aimed at spreading the message of environment protection.

Dileep Narayanan, Chief Executive of the agency, said that they had received 200 entries on the theme of ‘Kochi – Kick the CO2 addiction', as part of the poster design contest. The aim of the programme was to highlight the message of environment protection among the public, he said.

Mr. Narayanan said that the exhibits will be displayed at various petrol pumps across the city. The inaugural exhibition was held at BPCL petrol pump near Padma junction.

S. Kannan, Area Marketing Manager, BPCL distributed cash awards to the winners of the poster design contest. Saravanan V. K., who came up with a design of a rooster crowing ‘CO2, CO2', and a caption below saying that “it's time to wake up, act quickly against CO2” bagged the first prize. Mediamate Advertising came second and Nagesh D. Kammath won the third prize.
