The Moolampally-Pizhala bridge, a project of the Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA), is likely to be commissioned by March next year.
For the record, after the girders of the bridge collapsed in March this year, GIDA had sought the views of the National Institute of Technology - Calicut (NIT-C) before resuming work on the project.
Now that the damaged portion has been repaired, there are no hurdles to the timely completion of the project, GIDA sources said.
The bridge, once completed, will serve around 1,500 families on Pizhala island. Incidentally, it is the only island without connectivity to the Kochi mainland.
Another bridge between Kadamakkudy and Chathanad has run into trouble, thanks to difficulties in land acquisition. However, according to S. Sarma, MLA, a deal with land owners was expected soon. GIDA sources said land owners had been given a good deal.
Work on the water supply scheme, jointly executed by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) and GIDA, at Kadamakkudy is almost complete. The ₹31-crore project involves four overhead tanks for water supply to Kadamakkudy and Varappuzha areas.
Public Health Centre
Meanwhile, GIDA has completed the construction of the Pizhala Public Health Centre building at a cost of ₹50 lakh.
The authority has been engaged in developing infrastructure for islands scattered around the Kochi mainland including Bolghatty-Mulavukadu islands, Vypeen, Vallarpadam, Thanthonnithuruthu, and Kadamakkudy.
