A letter of intent from the Union Ministry for Health indicating likely approval for the postgraduate courses in the Ernakulam Medical College was received by the college authorities on Tuesday.
The letter of permission is likely to follow as the college has already replied to the letter of intent that enquired whether the college has rectified all the defects mentioned during the inspection and whether the college has a university affiliation.
The college authorities said the letter of intent was sent to the Director, Medical Education.
The 11 postgraduate seats in the college — three in medicine and two each in paediatrics, psychiatry, pathology and microbiology were approved by the Medical Council of India. But the delay in getting the letter of permission had eluded the PG students from making their choice in the college in the first round of counselling.
The college expects the seats to be put out on the State list before the second round of counselling begins from April 27.
The MCI team is likely to arrive soon for inspection of four more departments for post graduate courses. Gynaecology, surgery, anaesthesiology and physiology are the departments that had failed in the earlier MCI inspection.
