June 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:25 pm IST - KOCHI:

The Special Investigation Team probing the rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Perumbavoor has approached the Kuruppampady Judicial First Class Magistrate court seeking to conduct a DNA test of Ameerul Islam, the accused in the case.

Officials said they proposed to conduct the DNA analysis, as allegations were raised on the authenticity of a similar test carried out earlier.

Meanwhile, the police have completed the first round of interrogation of the accused, who reportedly gave the sleuths more details on the murder. Further, a search is also on to identify the auto driver who reportedly had taken Ameerul Islam to Perumbavoor from the victim’s house.

As per the accused’s statement, a person grazing cattle in the victim’s neighbourhood had seen him emerging out of her house. Sleuths are also looking whether persons riding the bike that had hit the victim’s mother had any links with Ameerul.
