Passenger traffic goes up to 77 lakh at CIAL

The passenger movement through the Cochin International Airport went up to more than 77 lakh during the last financial year, an increase of nearly 21 per cent over the previous year.

The number of passengers at the airport during 2014-15 was 64.27 lakh.

The number went up to 77.70 lakh during the last financial year.

The number of aircraft movement during the same period stood at 57,762, an increase of around 10 per cent from the previous financial year.

Domestic passengers

The number of domestic passengers during the last financial year stood at 31.29 lakh, up from 26.82 lakh passengers during the previous year, said a statement issued by Cochin International Airport here on Monday.

The number of international passengers rose from 37.45 lakh to 46.41 lakh during the period.

The rate of increase in domestic passengers is 16.6 per cent and in international passenger 23.92 per cent.

The first passenger aircraft landed at CIAL in June 1999. During that financial year, the airport saw a passenger movement of five lakh.

The number of passengers has increased 15 times over the last years, the press release said.

There are a total of 24 airlines operating through CIAL. New domestic services are being introduced too during the summer, the press release said.
