Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary P. Jayarajan visited the Central Jail here on Wednesday, barely a day after his visit to the prison along with his party colleagues that kicked up controversy following a report that he had met a jail inmate who is a suspect involved in hatching the controversy for killing Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T.P. Chandrashekharan.

Jail authorities, when contacted, said that Mr. Jayarajan and CPI(M) leader K.K. Ragesh reached the jail at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday and met Adivasis from Wayanad who had been brought to the jail after their arrest and eviction from land they illegally occupied as part of the land agitation under the aegis of the Adivasi Kshema Samiti (AKS), a pro-CPI(M) organisations. The officials said that they visited the jail with a request to meet the Adivasis brought there from Wayanad on May 29 night. The leaders met the Adivasis in the presence of the jail authorities, the officials here said.

The visit of Mr. Jayarajan on Tuesday triggered the controversy following a report that he along with other CPI(M) leaders had met Andhyeri Sura, a party worker convicted in a murder case. Sura's name is linked with the Chandrashekharan murder case as the investigators suspect that the conspiracy to kill the RMP leader had been hatched at Sura's house on the occasion of his daughter’s marriage. Mr. Jayarajan himself had clarified that he had gone to the prison to meet the arrested AKS workers and denied that he had met Sura.

The jail authorities, however, said that Mr. Jayarajan and the party leaders met a few party functionaries convicted in the jail in connection with cases of political violence. The meeting had been in the presence of jail authorities, the authorities said. The jail authorities also said that following a news report, the officials had been asked to clarify if the CPI(M) leaders had visited the inmates in the blocks where they had been put. The officials had clarified that the meeting was held in the presence of officials at the office of the Jail Superintendent.
