Over 21,000 seats will be available under the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) of the Mahatma Gandhi University for admission to undergraduate programmes offered by government, aided and unaided colleges affiliated to it in the new academic year.
In government colleges, 100 per cent seats will be filled through CAP. Seventy per cent of seats in aided colleges and 50 per cent in unaided colleges will also be available under the single window system.
The community merit quota and management quota seats will be filled by the managements concerned, according to the existing rules.
The admissions under cultural or sports quota for outstanding students are also decided by the respective colleges.
As per official records, nearly 129 affiliated colleges under the university offer 97 undergraduate programmes. Under CAP, even student applying for multiple courses and colleges need to submit just one application. The admission process can be tracked online. Marks at the Plus-Two level will decide the weightage for the admissions to the degree programmes.
Break-up of seats
The course-wise break-up of seats for some of the undergraduate programmes are as follows: B. Com – 6,278; B.A. Economics – 1,941; B.A. English – 2,102; B.Sc. Zoology – 999; B.Sc. Botany – 975; BBA – 497; B.Sc. Chemistry – 1,354; BCA – 545; B.A Politics – 180; B.Sc Physics – 1,348; B.Sc. Maths – 1,574; B.Sc Botany and Biotechnology – 30; B.Sc. Food Science and Quality Control – 45.
The number of seats available under CAP would go up, if the university authorities decided to have a marginal increase in intake for each undergraduate programme this academic year. A decision on the hike in the number of seats is expected within a week.
Over 64,645 students had applied for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the university under the centralised allotment process last academic year. About 19, 340 applicants were admitted to various courses in affiliated colleges.
CAP was introduced for undergraduate programmes in Mahatma Gandhi University in the academic year 2011-12.
The objective of the initiative is to ensure a fair and transparent admission process. The system eliminates the fear of manipulation at all levels.
