January 28, 2014 12:00 pm | Updated May 13, 2016 12:52 pm IST - KOCHI:

Noted oncologist V. P. Gangadharan will take charge as special officer in an advisory role for a cancer centre in the district.

Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Gangadharan said that he has in principle agreed to provide scientific and technical expertise for a cancer centre. This was conveyed to the Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar after he considered the proposal regarding his contribution put forward by the Minister for setting up a state-of-the-art centre.

He said that his consultancy as oncologist would remain unhindered.

His name was announced in the Assembly on Monday when S. Sarma, MLA, raised the issue of Kochi being left out by being denied any funds for a cancer centre in the State budget presented on Friday.
