The Onam trade fair of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha, Ernakulam city unit at Ernakulam Gramajana Samooham premises is attracting a large number of customers.

The fair was inaugurated by Mayor Tony Chammany. The mela will continue till September 7.

The main objective of the fair is to collect and sell a variety of pickles, condiments and savouries made from less privileged members of the Brahmin community, for many of whom it is a livelihood. Another idea is to find proper markets for these house-made eatables. The proceeds from the fair would be distributed to the members of the needy Brahmin families, says a communication. In his address, the Mayor congratulated the Brahmana Sabha on its endeavours to uplift the less privileged members of the community. The first sale in the fair was accepted by T.S. Ramachandran, managing director of the Thrissur-based Kalyan Sarees.

T.V. Krishnamani, vice-president of the city unit of the KBS presided. M. Vanchiswaran, secretary welcomed the guests. T.K. Narayanaswamy, secretary of the Gramajana Samooham offered felicitations. R. Ramakrishnan, convenor, proposed a vote of thanks.
