Nurses of more than 60 private and cooperative hospitals in Thrissur district will go on a token strike on Monday demanding wage revision recommended in the Balram Committee report.
M. Jasmin Sha, president of the United Nurses Association, said here on Sunday that more than 15,000 nurses from various hospitals in the district would stage a dharna in front of Mother Hospital, Thrissur, on Monday morning.
“We have ensured availability of nurses for emergency services in all hospitals,” he said.
“Nurses were forced to go on strike as the hospital managements refused to implement the recommendations of the committee such as revision of minimum wages, three-shift system and insurance coverage,” Mr. Sha said.
The managements had been insisting that they would not implement the committee recommendations as the government was yet to approve its report.
“The government has still not given a direction to the managements for implementing the recommendations. The government should have the political will to implement the report,” the Association demanded.
The agitating nurses would take out a march from the Mother Hospital to the Thekkinkadu maidan.
