Refuting the LDF government’s charge of omissions in the supervision of the investigation in the Perumbavoor murder case, former State Police Chief T.P. Senkumar informed the Central Administrative Tribunal, Ernakulam Bench, on Friday that it was only because of the call detailed records (CDR) and other evidence collected by the earlier investigation team that the new special investigation team was able to find out the perpetrator of the crime now. The arrest of the culprit was the logical outcome of such scientific investigation conducted by the earlier team, he claimed.
Puttingal accident
The State government in its affidavit had alleged that the former State Police Chief was protecting the delinquent officers in the Puttingal fireworks tragedy and that he was callous and insensitive in the investigation into the Dalit woman’s murder at Perumbavoor.
In his reply affidavit, Mr. Senkumar said the new investigation team had collected very little evidence, except the arrest of the accused in the case. In fact, he had taken a lot of efforts in giving directive for collecting scientific evidence in the case from the day one.
The first investigation team had conducted elaborate verification of the CDR and about 5,000 fingerprints were verified.
The first team had gathered all the evidence including most of the scientific evidence which led to the identification of the DNA of the assailant from five different points.
The detection of fingerprints, collection of a foreign hair, suspected knife, sandals worn by the assailant and the examination of the bite marks were done by the first team. Even the High Court was satisfied with the investigation.
He also noted that the previous government did not find any fault with the investigation into the case.
However, only the then Opposition parties (present ruling parties) had politically used the non-arrest of accused in the case.
The charges were cooked up by the LDF government. Besides, when the murder was committed, the State police were directly under the control of the Election Commission.
The incidents were seized of by the commission. If any wrong was committed, the commission would not have spared anyone including the State Police Chief, he said.
