There are no epidemic outbreaks in the district despite a spurt in the number of Hepatitis A cases being reported in Kalamassery.
Water shortage in the area could have contributed to the spurt of such cases, and people need to exercise caution. Maintaining good hygiene and sanitation was important, district Health officials said.
About 70 Hepatitis A cases and 55 H1N1 cases have been reported since the beginning of the year. Sporadic cases of dengue fever were also reported recently while there were 29 cases of leptospirosis.
According to Health officials, daily surveillance is being undertaken in the 100-odd households near the house from where diphtheria was reported last week. Swabs of two more people were collected, but it was only a precautionary measure.
All vaccinated children are safe from infection. Vaccine is being administered to those under five years, as a precautionary measure in select households.
