The district health authorities are maintaining that the case of a person reported to be found positive with Influenza A (H1N1) virus at Chettikad in the district is only having positive symptoms, but have not been confirmed with the disease.

However, the health authorities were on alert in the district following the possibility of the disease as it has been reported from the neighbouring States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr.K.M. Sirabudin told The Hindu that the person could be confirmed to have the disease only at later stages. “There is no case of concern in this case. The instance is deadly only in the case of pregnant women, aged persons, children below two years and diabetic patients with positive symptoms of H1N1. The person case now reported is not serious and the confirmation could be given only after further tests,” he said.

He said that he and his team will visit the Chettikad Community Health Centre (CHC) from where the case was reported on Monday. The DMO also dismissed that there was a spread of Hepatitis B in the southern parts of the district.
