The NIA court in Kochi is slated to begin trial on a case related to a secret meeting conducted by the Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF), allegedly a unit of the CPI (Maoist), at Mavelikara in December 2012.

Official sources said on Wednesday that the court was slated to commence the trial on June 2 and will examine as many as 83 prosecution witnesses in this connection.

The charges against the accused were framed last week.

Rajesh of Mavelikara, Bahuleyan of Njarayilkonam, Devarajan of Kollam, Gopal of Rajilpakkom in Tamil Nadu, who is a scientist with the Indira Gandhi Centre of Atomic Research in Kalpakkam, and Mannur Ajayan, are the accused in the case. As per the case, the RDF leaders had conspired to form a students’ wing of the organisation with the intention of recruiting students and youths.

In furtherance of the plan, they organised a secret meeting at Cherumadom lodge at Mavelikara on December 29, 2012.

The meeting was organised with the intention of associating, professing to associate, and supporting the activities of the proscribed terrorist organisation, CPI (Maoist).

The case has been booked under Sections 120B and 124A of the Indian Penal Code, besides Sections 10, 13, 38 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 for offences, including criminal conspiracy and sedition.
