Foundation for Restoration of National Values (FRNV), an NGO formed with the objective of restoring the time-tested national values of the country, may soon join hands with the Kochi Corporation to fight the twin menace of waterlogging and proliferation of mosquitoes faced by the city.
The areas for joint action were identified at the maiden meeting of the Kochi chapter of FRNV held in the city last August.
“Though initially we thought of collaborating with the Smart City Mission, we later felt that the corporation was the appropriate body for such grassroot level work,” said E. Sreedharan, national president of FRNV.
He said that addressing the issue of mosquito menace was not that difficult going by a two-staged scheme costing around ₹6.50 crore he had drawn up for his hometown at Ponnani. Mr. Sreedharan, however, lamented that the government had done nothing on that scheme since the municipality did not have that kind of funds.
Around 200 people turned up for the maiden meeting of the Kochi chapter at which the areas to be focused by the organisation in Kerala were decided. Apart from working with the Corporation to ensure improved life standards, the meeting zeroed in on ensuring proper academic environment on campuses, value education in schools and police reforms as the other focal areas.
The meeting evoked tremendous response from the participants. Though we received a large number of applications, we restricted to people who were interested in working in specific areas and formed task forces with a leader and three or four persons to assist him.
