Noted film director Sibi Malayil said here on Wednesday that films having newcomers in lead roles could be made using the fee given to superstars in the Malayalam film industry.
Addressing a press conference after the screening of ‘Violin', his latest movie, for media persons here, Sibi Malayil said that the industry will witness a series of new films involving newcomers in the coming days.
Many producers and distributors are also coming forward to support such films. The success of ‘Malarvadi Arts Club' and ‘Apoorvaragam' released last year are examples for this trend, he said.
Sibi Malayil recalled that senior directors like Joshie, who had earlier made films with popular senior actors, have now taken up movies with newcomers in prominent roles.
He said that there was immense scope for such films, as the industry could make only 12 to 15 films with the superstars in a year.
The industry usually churns out around 80 movies annually, he said.
Sibi Malayil pointed out that several movie-buffs, who had stayed away from theatres for lack of adequate facilities, have now started coming back thanks to the setting up of multiplexes in places such as Kochi.
The footfalls for movies being screened in these multiplexes have gone up.
People are ready to pay more for a ticket, if they get the right kind of facilities like better viewing, sound system and car parking, he said.
Viju Ramachandran, script writer of Violin, said that the movie tracks the incidents happening in the life of three women.
Music plays a key role in the film, he said.
