The annual conference of the National Interventional Council of the Cardiological Society of India began here on Friday with discussions and live transmissions of new techniques in interventional cardiology that would help reduce the trauma of treatment for heart ailments.
The discussions on various treatments looked at the need for indigenous style in treating heart ailments. The devices that that are being used, the nature and type of stents used in angioplasty procedures were also part of the discussion, said Rony Mathew Kadavil, secretary of the organising committee.
For patients with uncontrolled hypertension even with medicines, the technique of intervention through the nerves on the kidneys was a highlight. There were also presentations on valve replacement through minimally invasive techniques.
The live transmissions were held from centres at Copenhagen and United Kingdom abroad and Lisie Hospital and Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi.
A session on mitral valve replacement termed mitral clip will be held on Saturday. Sasko Kedev, eminent interventional cardiologist and a mountaineer from Macedonia, will inaugurate the conference formally at 11.30 a.m. at Hotel Le Meridien.
The three-day conference will conclude on Sunday.
