The world of bamboo continues to surprise. If bamboo seed paayasam is now quite common to Kochiites, they can take a look at items of clothing from bamboo fibre at the ongoing exhibition of bamboo-based products on Marine Drive as part of Kerala Bamboo Fest 2014.
The organisers of the exhibition, Kerala State Bamboo Mission, have even set up a loom at the centre of the exhibition enclave where a live demonstration is on. Hand-crafted furniture, art works, articles for flower arrangements, items of daily household use like the simple puttu-maker and mats are also on display. In the midst of these products, there is a large gathering in front of a stall managed by artisans from Assam. At the entrance to the bamboo expo pavilions are toilets built with bamboo. The 11th edition of Kerala Bamboo Fest is on till Tuesday on Marine Drive. It has brought workers together from States like Chattisgarh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland.
