: Leaders of Vypeen Janakeeya Koottayma, a combine of the islanders, claimed that Mayor of the Cochin Corporation had promised them that the ferry service between Vypeen and Fort Kochi, using a barge from Thanneermukkam, would be restarted soon.

Chairman of Goshree Action Council Majnu Komath, who inaugurated a protest meet before the Corporation office here on Thursday demanding immediate resumption of the ferry service, said that the Mayor’s assurance came during their meeting with him in the Corporation office.

The Mayor, they said, assured the delegation that the barge would make a trial run before regular services resumed.

Protest march

Earlier, hundreds of people from the Vypeen Island marched to the Corporation office to highlight their demand for the ferry service.
