Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Robin K. Dhowan arrived in the city on Wednesday.

He was received at naval air station INS Garuda by Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, outgoing Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command.

Admiral Dhowan will present gallantry and distinguished service awards to Navy personnel at an investiture ceremony at the Naval Base on Thursday. Besides giving away Nao Sena Medal (gallantry), Nao Sena Medal (devotion to duty) and Vishisht Seva Medal, he will award unit citations to best performing shore establishments and operational units —ships, submarines and air squadrons.

The Admiral will also present the Capt Ravi Dhir Memorial Medal to the air station or squadron that was adjudged best in promoting flight safety last year.

Later in the day, he will chair the annual general body of the Naval Group Insurance Fund (NGIF) and the Indian Naval Benevolent Association (INBA).
