Naval officers move court

June 15, 2013 03:27 am | Updated 03:27 am IST - KOCHI:

Two naval officers on Friday filed a petition before the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the police against them.

The FIR was filed in connection with a complaint by the wife of a lieutenant alleging molestation and sexual harassment against the officer and his colleagues. The petition was filed by Commodore Anand Balakrishnan and Lt Ajay Jayakrishnan. The petitioners contended that the proceedings based on the FIR were tantamount to abuse of the process of the court.

In fact, no reference had been made about them in her complaint submitted to naval authorities. An inquiry had been ordered by the Navy. According to the petitioner, the first complaint was an oral one on February 22 before the police.

She alleged that her husband had confiscated her luggage, laptop and dependent card. They were returned to her and she left for Delhi the next day. The second complaint was sent to the Southern Naval Command, but there were no allegations against Commodore Anand. The wife had deliberately absented herself from attending the inquiry.

The FIR was lodged on based of a complaint sent on April 4, by post from New Delhi to the Harbour police. The allegation levelled against the senior officials had no basis, they claimed.
