The effective application of technology to make a difference in society across private and public sectors remains India’s pressing challenge, said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Addressing #FUTURE, the global digital summit through video-conferencing here on Friday, Mr. Nadella hailed the technological advancements taking place in India.

He cited how healthcare organisations were using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for early detection of cardiac diseases, and farmers in rural areas of the country were empowered with more data to better understand weather and soil conditions would improve crop yield.

In the education sector, schools are using cloud and AI to predict students who are at risk of dropping out for targeted intervention, while local governments across India are using Kaizala, a mobile communications app, to empower government workers and improve citizen service.

“We don’t celebrate technology for technology’s sake. We celebrate what others are empowered to do with that technology,” Mr. Nadella said. He hoped that events like #FUTURE, which had brought together top leaders of the knowledge industry, academics, and influencers, would inspire to make a difference in the world.

“And that’s what I hope you would inspire to do after this event. To dream, create and build the solutions that will transform your organisations, your communities and make a difference in the world,” he added.
