KOCHI: The Ernakulam North Police on Friday morning arrested a murder accused in a case registered in Tamil Nadu.

The arrested is Veerakumar, 33, from Kancheepuram. A squad led by sub-inspector Vipin Das and comprising City Task Force members Bose, Vinod Krishna, and Rajesh made the arrest. Veerakumar had been absconding since he was released on bail. He had been remanded on the charge of allegedly killing his wife Mahalakshmi in 2014.

He had reportedly spent some time in Chennai before slipping across the border on realising that the police were following him. He was later moving around in Kochi.

On Friday, the police turned up at the Kaloor bus station on information that the accused had been dropping in there daily without fail. Though Veerakumar made a last-ditch attempt to flee on a two-wheeler he had allegedly stolen from Theni in Tamil Nadu, the police had the last laugh.

He will soon be handed over to the Theni Police.
