A 19-year-old accused in a murder case was arrested by the city police for attempting to molest a woman and attacking her when she resisted.
Roy Varkey, alias Vavachan, of Kadakkavur in Thiruvananthapuram, tried to grope a scribe who was on her way to work near Kaloor on Sunday morning. When she evaded the assault and reacted quickly, the accused slapped her on the face, the police said. Though the woman fell and her spectacles were damaged, she managed to hold on to the accused’s shirt and called for help. Traffic police officers stationed near the area arrived on the spot and handed over the accused to the Town North police.
The police found that the man was out on bail after his arrest in connection with the murder of Kadakkavur native 18-year-old Dixon. The accused was working at a private hospital here, where he came under the police scanner again after the parents of a nurse working at the hospital filed a complaint against him for allegedly kidnapping their daughter. The case was closed after the nurse said she had gone with the accused on her own volition. The police have registered a case against Roy for attempting to molest the woman and assaulting her. He will be produced in court on Monday.
